Precious opal deposits are found in ironstone. Australian Boulder Opals are distinguished by their layer of solid brown ironstone left on the back of the stone. They are mined from large ironstone boulders under the ground which contain natural veins of opal within their interior. Boulder Opals are found only in Queensland, Australia. The Boulder Opal stones in this collection, with their beautiful iridescence, are from the Winton mines.

A 1 ¼”x ½”oval shaped Boulder Opal of incredible blue with a purple show of light, has been tab set with sterling silver onto a hammered copper fan. The top of the fan is edged with and riveted with sterling silver. Fan is approximately 2”x1” in size and is on a heavy 3mm oval sterling silver bead chain. Truly one of a kind.
